Last year, PASSHE undertook an important effort to better understand the challenges facing the State System—the same challenges facing many universities around the country. The Board of Governors launched a strategic review of the System’s 14 universities and the Office of the Chancellor—with the intent of ensuring our ability to provide a high-quality, affordable experience.
New Residence Hall Named in Honor of Dr. Soltz

Bloomsburg’s Council of Trustees approved naming the university’s new residence hall in honor of retiring President David L. Soltz at their meeting on Wednesday, June 14. The Trustees also recommended and approved President Emeritus status for Soltz, who steps down on July 7. The seven-story, $61 million residence hall, featuring 138 suite-style apartments with accommodations for 394 students, will open in August
Dr. Krause Named Interim Provost

James Krause has been named interim provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs. A faculty member in the department of exceptionality programs, Krause began his almost 21-year tenure at Bloomsburg University as an adjunct professor.
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet STEM Experience

A group of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets from across Pennsylvania recently spent a day at Bloomsburg University as part of their summer STEM experience, specifically getting an up-close look at its innovative digital forensics program.
BU 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University athletic department announced today that six individuals will be inducted into the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 27. It marks the 36th Athletic Hall of Fame class and, with the addition of six individuals, brings the number of members in the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame to 175.

Bloomsburg University is ranked fifth among four-year colleges in Pennsylvania according to Schools.com. The ranking focuses on affordability, flexibility and student services using the most recent government data to evaluate colleges and universities across the state.
Bloomsburg University Sales Program Ranked Nationally

Bloomsburg University's professional sales major is ranked among the nation’s best for professional sales education by the Sales Education Foundation (SEF).

BU is one of just five schools in the state to be ranked among the best with the others being LaSalle, Widener, Duquesne and Temple. It is the only school in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education with a sales major. Students in the Marketing and Sales specialization complete 21 credits in marketing and 18 credits in sales.

Bloomsburg University Nursing Program Ranked Nationally

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University’s nursing program has been rated first in the commonwealth and 60th in the nation by CollegeAtlas.org. The rating, based on data from the 2013-14 academic year, considered affordability, academic quality, accessibility and pass rates on the board exam.
Steckel named alumni Volunteer of the Year

Marc Steckel, New Windsor, Maryland, received the William T. Derricott ’66 Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of his volunteerism throughout 2016. Three other graduates were honored at the awards dinner, a tradition at Bloomsburg since the 1940s.

Drs. David and Roberta Soltz named honorary alumni

Retiring Bloomsburg University President David L. Soltz and Roberta “Robbie” L. Soltz, Ph.D., were named 2017 honorary alumnus and alumna, at the annual Bloomsburg University Alumni Awards Dinner on April 1. The BU Alumni Association conferred honorary status on the Soltzes in recognition of the significant impact they have had on the university since Dr. David Soltz became the 18th president in January 2008.
Before there was Nelson Field House, fans packed Centennial Gymnasium

Before there was Nelson Field House, Huskies fans packed into Centennial Gymnasium to watch teams compete in basketball, wrestling and swimming. In fact, it was 75 years ago that the first basketball game was played in the new Centennial Gymnasium. In 2001, the old gym was dedicated as Centennial Hall and upper campus became the hub for Bloomsburg University athletics. Here's a look back at the gem that was once the largest and most modern gym in the United States.
