Volunteering at the Olympics in Rio was experience of lifetime for this alumna

Recent BU graduate Adrianna Sgouris, class of 2015, dreamed of being at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but not as an athlete. She wanted to be a volunteer. She reached out to Olympic officials while an undergrad, landed an interview and was selected to make the trip of a lifetime. BLOOMSBURG — David L. Soltz will retire as president of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. In his announcement to the campus community, Soltz said, “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve our students with all of you, the outstanding faculty and staff of Bloomsburg University.”

Grimes Honorees 2015

The Bloomsburg University Alumni Association recently honored 95 alumni who earned the Grimes Loyalty Award recognition for 2015. The recognition honors the late Richard E. Grimes '49, a retired teacher from Harrisburg, who missed only two Homecomings and not a single Alumni Day celebration.

A busload of 24 Bloomsburg University students made a Husky Career Road Trip to Washington, D.C. in April to explore career and internship opportunities. Before returning to campus, the students met with alumni for a networking reception.
More than 700 attend BU lecture by distinguished Harvard economist

More than 700 Bloomsburg University students, faculty and guests attended a recent lecture by prominent Harvard economist, Dr. N. Gregory Mankiw,  who spoke on "The Rise of Economic Inequality: Causes and Cures."  The lecture, shared here, was sponsored by the Department of Economics and the College of Liberal Arts and was open to the public as part of BU's Distinguished Speaker and Lecture Series.
2016 Alumni Awards: Cannon named honorary alumna

Maria Baron Cannon, vice president of Channel Marketing for TE Connectivity and Bloomsburg University Foundation Board member, was named honorary alumna during an Alumni Awards dinner on Saturday, April 23. Four graduates were also recognized for their contributions to the university and their professions, including Crystal Skotedis, CPA and director with Boyer & Ritter CPAs & Consultants, who received the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award.
First Breiner Professorship recipient named at BU

BLOOMSBURG— The chairperson of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Nursing is the recipient of the first Breiner Family Endowed Professorship for Nursing. Michelle Ficca was recently selected for the professorship, supported by a gift of $1.9 million from Edward and Julianne (Miller) Breiner, who graduated from BU in 1977. The Breiners established the university’s first endowed professorship a year ago in support of an exceptional teacher, mentor and leader.

Jonathan T. Marks '88 is internationally recognized as a leader, a writer, and a speaker in fraud and fraud related matters. To Bloomsburg University he is recognized as a highly valued member, devoted alumnus, and caring brother in the Greek life community, especially within his fraternity Zeta Psi, Pi Kappa Chapter.

Stephanie Steele was living the city life in Pittsburgh that she had always dreamed about when she graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2008 intent on leaving her hometown of Williamsport behind. Then life threw her a curve ball. The baseball analogy is appropriate. Steele is back in Williamsport, working as the Retail Customer Service and Marketing manager for Little League Baseball International.

Record gift establishes Giuffre Center for Supply Chain Management

The largest gift in the history of the Bloomsburg University Foundation is benefiting BU’s supply chain management program. Nicholas J. Giuffre ’78 recently contributed a $2.5 million blended gift to the BU Foundation and the university’s It’s Personal campaign. The gift establishes the Nicholas J. Giuffre Center for Supply Chain Management within the College of Business.

When Ken Walsh was dropped off in Bloomsburg the day after his high school graduation in June 1981, he had no idea that the friendships he forged and the Greek organization he joined would still be relevant in his life almost 35 years later. On that hot June day, he was more worried about making friends and being homesick than he was about making strong relationships and learning life skills.

It was 1967 and the Greek System was young. The idea of founding a new sorority seemed daunting but possible...exciting actually! Seven sophomores began to think and talk more seriously about a new local sorority and suddenly they were deep into the process. On October 22, 1967, the vision named Chi Sigma Rho was a reality. Meet Joanne Cashman '70, a founding member and Alumna of Distinction.

President Soltz announces retirement from BU
